Getting people through your doors is not the same as getting them to buy. The same applies even if you have an enormous social following, but if no one is buying what you’re selling, you’re not going to make any money.

You need to convert visitors into buyers, and whilst that may sound easy, they are after all interested in you enough to browse whatever it is you’re selling, getting them to part with their cash is another matter.

You don’t have to reinvent the wheel when it comes to marketing, nor should you have to spend hours doing it, there are so many free marketing tools available for you to use, take advantage of them:

  • Keyword research - Google keyword suggest, Google Trends, SEMRush
  • Content Ideation and research - Buzzsumo, Uber Suggest, Alltop
  • Content distribution - Buffer, Meet Edgar, Contently, Feedly, Stumbleupon
  • Track user engagement - Kissmetrics, Google Analytics, Mention

However, in order to maximise your marketing power, you need a high converting marketing strategy. And luckily for you, we have a guide to designing just the thing, so read on for some tips and tricks to set you on your way to conversion heaven.

1. Be approachable - design a fantastic about us page on your website

People buy from people they like so make sure your brand is approachable as possible and the easiest way to do that is by showing some behind the scenes action, introduce yourself and your team, be quirky, be different, be warm and welcoming.

Use your about us page to create a compelling story: why your business exists, what made you start up the business, what solution could you alone provide?

Get creative, use a timeline, add images, GIFs, videos, infographics. Make it insightful and fun. It can be a great way to emotionally connect with your customers, don’t let this easy win slide.

2. Be giving - giveaway a high value product for free

You could offer new customers a free item with their purchases, or a free item for every purchase they make, or money off vouchers for future spends. It seems counterintuitive to make money by giving something away for free, but if it makes customers feel special and it doesn’t cost you the earth (or anything), it is a win win.

  • Product samples
  • Promotional items
  • E-book
  • Free courses

Even if you don’t want to give something tangible away for free, nearly every audience, of every business, has a problem that they are seeking an answer to.

Creating a comprehensive, content-rich ebook which addresses this, and provides a potential solution, costs you nothing other than your time to produce it. .

3. Be the authority in your field - become social proof

People follow the herd, we always have and we always will. It’s also called the snowball effect.

People buy when they see other people buying, it’s as if they worry they’ll miss out if they don’t. Especially if all the evidence is indicating they’ll miss out if they don’t make this purchase immediately.

By having some high profile testimonials or reviews singing your praises is an easy way to achieve this. Peer reviewing is one of the most effective forms of persuasion.

You can also achieve social proofing by becoming the authority figure in your field, the go-to guy or gal for your niche. Create and distribute regular content that benefits users by answering their most pertinent of questions and solving their biggest dilemmas.

4. Be useful - create how-to videos

People love a good infographic. All the relevant information in one easy to read and understand diagram. All the key details in manageable, bite size nuggets.

Even more appealing are videos. Create how-to or product demo videos for your products and services and share them widely.

If people can’t physically hold your product in their hands and explore it before they purchase it, they want to at least see it in action to better understand how it can be used, how it can enrich their life or solve their problems.

A quality video can increase your conversion rate by 85%.

The more imaginative ways your product can be used, the more appealing it is to a wider audience, so don’t just show them the features, make a video that highlights all of its benefits.

Images and videos maybe time consuming to put together, but they are also the most shared form of content online and you want to create user-generated content so that it sells itself and encourages its users to take action.

5. Email marketing - make your emails work for you

Use email to generate engagement. Don’t have people sign up to your website and then ignore them. Email has one of the highest conversion rates out of all the mediums available to you. But don’t just sell to your customers, give them high value content, keep them coming back to you for more.

Give them articles to read, free offers, first access. It boosts your credibility and your trustworthiness.
